Description
This crispy fried mozzarella sandwich is comfort food at its finest, perfectly combining gooey melted cheese with golden, crunchy bread.
Ingredients
Scale:
- 4 slices of day-old Italian bread or any crusty white bread (thick-cut recommended)
- 8 ounces of fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk or cream
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Slice the fresh mozzarella cheese into thick slices, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Lay two slices of bread on a clean surface. Place 2-3 slices of mozzarella between them, pressing gently.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk or cream, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Dredge each sandwich first in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally press into the breadcrumbs.
- In a deep skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until hot.
- Carefully place the breaded sandwiches into the hot oil, frying them for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Once fried, remove the sandwiches from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
