A sweet and tangy spread perfect for toast, desserts, or as a delightful condiment made from ripe plums.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 pounds ripe plums, pitted and chopped
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
Wash the plums thoroughly under cool water. Cut them in half, remove the pits, and chop the flesh into smaller pieces.
In your slow cooker, add the chopped plums, granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Stir gently to coat the plums evenly.
Set the slow cooker to low heat. Cover and let the mixture cook for 6 to 8 hours, stirring occasionally.
After 6 hours, check the consistency of the plum butter. If it’s not thick enough, continue cooking for an additional hour.
Once the desired consistency is achieved, let the plum butter cool slightly. Transfer to sterilized jars and seal.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or can for long-term storage.
